It seems like he's embarrassed, he was probably very very nervous about telling you how he felt if you were his first 'love'. He probably stares at you trying to work out how you feel or he could just be a freak/stalker. It's up to you if you want to deal with him or not, maybe you should ask him how he feels and why he's staring at you etc? Hope this helps.

 It sounds to me that he really doesn't know how to start a relationship. What he is doing is kind of creepy so it's really up to you if you should even bother with him anymore. He could just be extremely nervous though so I would go and talk to him. It might take some of the nerves away if you approach him.

 How old is this guy?. Its just a really odd thing to do, tell a girl that they are pretty then leg it. Maybe if he told you that you were pretty then blushed would be understandable. He is obviously really unsure of himself and by the sounds of it has got a huge crush on you. He must be really embarassed about what happened, which is why all he does is stare at you. If you like him wht don't you help him along abit and maybe go over and get chatting to him, go for a coffee somewhere or something.
