 I think you did the right thing. Personally I would have questioned whether he was seeing somebody else as well, because when you egt back with somebody you are excited and want to spend time with them......the fact he wasn't commiting to you sort of says you were convinient or he had better things to do.
Sorry to sound harsh, but I think you made the right choice.
