One of my friends asked him 'what would he do if I asked him out' and he didn't answer at first but in the end he said that he would say 'no'. My advice to you is to stop worrying about it.
So he wouldn't say 'yes' if you asked him out - but you didn't ask him out! Don't you think HE might have been a bit embarrassed by the question?
My advice - don't encourage your friends to ask this kind of question, if you did - next time ask him yourself... if you really wanted to go out with him? If you didn't ask your friend to do this then you could think of directly apologising to him....you never know he might actually surprise you and say he did or does want to after all?

Dont worry, be yourself around him and act as if you dont have any idea whats going on if he asks about the crush thing. Just say that you are single but once u find the right guy u will date again..that usually works (:
