A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Do i keep doing something wrong? One of my mates seems to have this problem with me but he never says it. He barely speaks to me, sometimes he will, like ask me the odd thing or how im doing but theres no effort to strike up a conversation, he wont sit with me when we are all out toegther he makes every effort to be with the others, when we walk home he just walks off ahead and again barely speaks to me. He will say the odd thing or if a conversation gets going he will talk for abit but initally he just walks ahead, and the thing i really dont get is if anyone was to say anything rude/jokingly/do or sayn something silly he would laugh and take notice.....on the other hand if i do it he just doesnt respond and discreetly shakes his head. Abit like he isnt happy or something, you know what kinda thing i mean, many of us have done it.

I've tried to talk to him i;ve tried having a joke with him. One night was a prime example as he was on the phone to a friend of his who happens to be a girl and he was going round her house late at night, i knew they were just friends but i jokingly said "whos your gf?" and when he said it wasnt i just jokinly teased him like anyone would, just going round hers late at night. And usually with anyone he takes the joke...but no i later found out he was moaning about it saying i was getting at him and he'd took what i said to the extreme.

He doesnt seem to act like i;ve done anything wrong though thats the problem. I cant bring it up with him if i can;t even speak to him, ignoring him doesnt seem to work but seriously have i done something wrong or is there a reason he would act like this? is there anything i could say to him? Thing is i dont want him to just say sorry and we;ll start again just for it to go back to this. Even if theres nothing i can do everyone says i deserve to know the reason. Please help

Usually when it seems like it's all your fault, it means it's entirely the other person's fault. In this case, I'd say he's the one with the problem. You'll never know what it is. It might be that he's just not that good a friend, or it might be that he fancies you (some guys act like this)

You could just ignore it, or just come out and say "I've noticed you seem to have take a real dislike to me. Why?"

Worth a shot. Other than than, don't worry about it. He's the one acting like a child, not you. He's the one with the problem, not you.

fi_the_tree agony auntThere's only one way to fix this hun... You need to have it out with him. To me is seems as though you have done nothing wrong, and it's not fair that he should alienate you from the rest of your friends.

Get him alone if you can, and just tell him straight up 'have i said or done something to upset you? I feel like you treat me differently from everyone else, and to be honest i'm sick of it'

See what he says to that!!!
