largentsgirl89 agony auntLeave in conditioner is meant for after you get out of the shower (after using regular conditioner) either on damp or dry hair. Leave in conditioner doesn't use oils, they generally use glycerin, which helps untangle the hair and provides extra moisture to the hair as well.

Conditioner that is used in the shower is formulated with oils and is usually pretty dense and must be washed out of the hair during the shower or your hair will look greasy and eventually dry out worse. I have found that the thicker the conditioner, the better results you usually get with your hair. I love Biolage or Herbal Essence is amazing too. Herbal Essence has a wide range of different products for each type of hair as well that aren't too expensive. Aussie is awesome too.

There are also deep conditioners, like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle that you leave in your hair for three minutes while you are in the shower. This is formulated to coat the hair, from root to tip and provide deep deep moisture to the hair cuticle and it leaves the hair smelling beautiful and the shine and smoothness (for me) is outstanding.

I'm not trying to endorse products, but I've found personally that these work the best for me. You kind of just have to experiment around until you find what works for you. Have fun.

k_c100 agony auntLeave in conditioner is exactly that - conditioner that you leave in your hair without washing it out.

Normal conditioner you use after your shampoo and wash it out like you would shampoo.

Leave in conditioner is good for people with very dry, coarse, frizzy, wiry or very curly hair as it is a deep conditioning treatment that should leave your hair softer and more manageable.

Normal conditioner should be used on all hair types each time you wash it with shampoo to replace the nutrients lost when shampooing. It will leave your hair softer, with more shine and easier to manage. But it is not a 'deep' conditioning treatment like the leave in conditioner.

You can also get weekly conditioning treatments from pharmacies, supermarkets, beauty shops etc that tend to come in a smaller tub and these should be used once a week as a deep conditioning treatment for your hair, to help it recover from any damage (like using hair dryers, hair straightners, curling tongs etc).

I hope this helps and good luck!
