Girlfriend says she would leave me for famous people in an instant! It hurts!

A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm 17 and my girlfriend is also 17

She is Christian and waiting until marriage.

I am cool with this

I am not cool with her telling me how hot other people are and alluding how she would have sex with them and leave me for them in an instant.

Granted famous people, but still

sometimes she says she doesn't even want to kiss me because she's not in the mood.

I hate feeling so unwanted, and like, i'm not even ugly or anything.

Am i wrong to be bitching about this? I don't know I just feel shitty about it. Thanks.

Honeypie agony auntThat sounds utterly immature. I would tell how you feel about it.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 September 2011):

Maybe she is being a little contrary. You say she wants to wait until marriage...for sex i imagine! And you are 'cool' with that. Then in the next breath she is telling you about the guys she would leave you for and insinuating she would have sex with them. I think her vanity might be slightly dented because you are sooo cool about NOT having sex with her! So she is trying to make you feel jealous and wake up your 'Ugg The Caveman' gene. So her chatter could be for attention as she doesn't feel you desire her very much.

You could let it all wash over you, act like you don't care. But then you run the risk of her thinking you really don't desire her. Or you could have a word with her and ask her to be a little more considerate when you are trying to honour her 'no sex' wishes. You are behaving like a gentleman and that should be prized. She has yet to learn how to behave like a considerate young lady and true Christian. Have a chat with her and explain how she leaves you feeling.

i would just try and get over it. it's not gonna ever happen with these famous people, that's why she says it. it's unrealistic and harmless.

if it really bothers you, just casually let her know it upsets you and ask her to please stop.

A male reader, Odds United States +, writes (17 September 2011):

Odds agony auntChicks do that sometimes. Don't think of it as a bad thing; think of it as a chance to show your resilience in the face of emotional adversity.

She says she'd leave you for Hugh Jackman, you chuckle and say, "So, do you think you'd miss me after two days, or three?" If she laughs, you pass the test, and life is good. If she makes a joke, make another one back, perhaps about that time Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson got into a catfight over you. On the other hand, if she says something like, "I wouldn't miss you," and doesn't make it into a joke, she's bad news and you should dump her.

"Granted famous people, but still"

You're coming at this the wrong way. You're thinking, "Well, famous people are rich and attractive, so it makes sense." Instead, think of it as, "Haha, I get it, she's using an obviously unattainable example instead of, say, my best friend, so I know it's just a crappy joke."

"sometimes she says she doesn't even want to kiss me because she's not in the mood."

So put her in the mood. Be playful, confident, and occasionally even make her work for it rather than the other way around. Tease her. Chuckle at her antics like she was an amusing child instead of taking it seriously.

Number one rule: never let 'em see you sweat.
