Hey, speaking as a personal trainer, nutritionist, model and somebody who has battled an eating disorder a few years ago, 600 calories is bad news. You need to be eating about 2000 kCals a days, and exercising as well.

When looking at your intake in comparison to your expenditure, you should only burn up to 700 kCals more than you eat. When you take into consideration that you are constantly burning calories, even as you sleep, that isnt a great deal of work. Eat food like banana's as they have slow release energy.

Also, foods with low glyceamic index or GI level as these take longer to release energy, keeping you fuller for longer, enabling you to make more sensible food choices as opposed to always reaching for something sugary.

Weight gain and loss is more than calories in / calories out. If it was, everyone would be able to lose weight by cutting calories and exerciing more but it just doesn't work that well! You end up getting too hungry and over compensating wtih more food than you need!

Your weight is controlled by your hormones. For example, when you eat high sugar foods, the hormone insulin responds by trying to store away all the calories as fat. When you eat foods that are more appropriate for humans like the foods we've eaten throughout history; meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds then insulin does not come into play and you will lose or maintain your weight. Keep the carbs low to keep the weight coming off, good luck!

You'd look like an anorexic gross lollypophead. Adult women should consume 2000 calories, if u want to look 'fitter' I'd suggest a diet of 1500 per day, but with a 20 minute jog non stop, u can't lose weight wirthout excersixe.

A female reader, LilPixie United Kingdom +, writes (26 August 2010):

LilPixie agony auntIt will work for a while but it is extremely bad for you! Plus once you start eating normal again you'll pile it all back on in no time.

Your better off making small changes to your current diet and exercising regularly. Swap unhealthy snacks like chocolate, biscuits or crisps for healthier snacks like bananas, apples or any other frutis/veg that you like. Try to exerise 30-60 mins a day. You could go jogging which won't cost you a penny or you could maybe go swimming a couple of times a week. Doing this kind of thing with a friend is a lot more fun and it encourages you to stick to it. Your probably going to lose weight slower this way but it will be a lot better for you. It's better to make small changes to your life style than going on a drastic diet.

I know how you feel about losing weight because I'm wanting to lose 2 stone myself but it is a lot healthier body to take it slow.

You shouldn't lose more than 2-3lbs a week, so around 8-12 a month which is just under a stone. I think you may actually be able to reach your target by the end of this year, or at least get close to it.

I hope this helps and good luck

Don't torture yourself with that, just eat a healthy balanced diet and excercise plenty. Good luck!

person12345 agony auntDon't count calories. It's a hop skip and a jump away from an eating disorder. Just get lots of exercise and only eat when you're hungry. Make sure to eat as many leafy greens as possible, drink lots of water, keep away from sugar (candy, soda, desert). Don't stay on anything incredibly strict. Before you know it, you'll be at the fridge gorging yourself on cake and bacon. Just eat more veggies, less desert, meat, and carbs, and get more exercise.

A female reader, Philosophyzer United States +, writes (25 August 2010):

Philosophyzer agony aunt600 calories is extremely unhealthy, love! The average, healthy woman consumes roughly 2000 a day. Eating only 600 calories will be very rough on your body. You shouldn't be concerned with losing lots of pounds very quickly, but rather with shedding a steady amount of weight over a period of time. Weight loss is a slow and steady process that takes time. People who go on rapid diets, as you are suggesting, rarely keep their weight off. It is called the yo-yo effect.

Successful weight loss is not about counting calories and reading scales. It is about altering your lifestyle and making a decision to change. First, consider what you eat and make simple, healthy changes. Cut out sugary drinks and soda. Switch to whole grain and skim milk. Add more fiber into your diet with an organic cereal perhaps and also work on consuming more fruits and vegetables. Lower your intake of red meat and make sure to take in plenty of protein via grilled or sometimes baked chicken and fish, such as salmon. Then, make sure to exercise. Ease into a routine with some light cardio at first, such short, light walks. Then progress to light jogs and eventually long runs. Get a small set of five pound weights and do light toning a time or two a week. Once you become comfortable with a workout routine, add a few different exercises or a slight bit of length to challenge yourself. Always remember to stretch and drink lots of water!

Over time, you will see a transformed version of yourself, who will likely be there to stay. Don't cut yourself short with bogus dieting and harmful weight loss tactics. Work towards a healthier, new you!

Best of luck! ;-)
