Last week an old school friend approached my aunt in a club and asked her to pass his number to me and get in touch...as I am too shy a person to call out right I texted him, he has not replied.I have not been able to get this guy off my mind which is rather unusual for me.Today I asked my aunt to phone him but apparently a girl answered and it made me feel a little hurt which has totally confused me.I haven't seen this guy for 13 years...does fate exist or am I thinking way too much and just being totally ridiculous?! this seems so silly and not a problem at all but I'm just feeling really weird about the whole situation as I feel like I feel something for someone I know nothing about!!!!

A female reader, les United States +, writes (25 August 2008):

I think that fate does exist. Your case, however, it not fate. At least you dont know until you date the guy for many many years.

What you're going through is a very simple psychological reaction - someone showed interest in you, you were flattered, and your ego was stroked. Having an ego boost feels very good and naturally the mind wants to focus on the source in order to keep the feeling.

Thats why you cant stop thinking about him and feel weird about the situation - b/c in your head you've associated him with feeling good and naturally you want to think about him.

However, as we all know most psychological responses are not healthy ones, and after a while you'll really bad about yourself if you dont get the attention from him you want.

So its not fate - its your mind telling you that instead of thinking about this guy you need to go out and do things to boost up your self confidence.
