Some lie alot, while others are truthful. Its hard to know the difference so its not much help.

if you are in a relationship and you both love, care , and respect each others feeling then i would say they tell you the truth. if you are in a relationship were one person is in another relationship, or married or does not love, respect, care that much for you but is only using you for sexual purposes, then they will deceive you, but i think there is more to this question than you are letting on, maybe you should write in again with full version of events. then you may get a better response, if you do not want the world to now your problem, please contact me directly, i will try to help.

But definetly, men or boys have a way of telling you what they think you want to hear especially when trying to get you to sleep with them. So don't do anything with anyone whom you don't know really well.
