Hi,
They shouldn't really. However, if they become lacerated they can then lead to immense pain. Whatever you do, make sure that they are not punctured and when you are going to the toilet you don't force things. Try fibe gel etc and drink lots of water. Also, if they begin to itch, this can cause you to scratch them at night and can infect them. My advice would be to visit your doctor for an inspection of the bowel area just to make sure you don't have an anal fissure. (this is a laceration in the bowel lining.) This can be caused when a person pushes the piles upwards and lacerates the inside of the bowel. Not serious but massive massive intense bouts of pain.
On a personal note, it's best not to let your partner touch things around that area until you are sure with your doctor. best wishes, G.

I'm not sure if it's the same for a girl but my boy-friend had haemorroids and it never affected us.
I can't really see any reason why it would.
Good luck. X
