A reader, anonymous, writes (4 June 2009):

I am currently recovering from anorexia. I think uniquescreenname's post said it all really.

Right now, you want to lose weight. But anorexia is like a disease that slowly infects all of you. It is a rope around you that gets tighter and tighter, until you can't move at all. It paralyses you. You think you are in control of what is happening, but the anorexia is.

At my lowest, I was nearly admitted into hospital. I had constant chest pains, and an ECG revealed why. I was weakening my heart. My blood pressure was so low that the alarms were going off, and my pulse was slow. Imagine that. 22 years old, and terrified everyday that I was going to have a heart attack at any moment...

I have also done some kind of damage to my liver. And I'm not sure when, if ever, I will get my periods back, so my bones are still at risk.

I also developed an overwhelming terror of food. And yet I was so hungry, I became obsessed with it.

Please think about what you are doing here. Starving yourself might seem like an easy fix, but it has secret, hidden dangers. Like drugs. A little white pill might look totally harmless...but just one could potentially kill you.

It sounds like you already have a problem with this though, if you are making yourself sick. So please seek help now, while it is still early days. Take care. x

Why do that to yourself?

anyways i'm sure you're pretty and have loads of great qualities about you.

but why try nd be like your friends be more like yourself.

live your life.

if you're unhappy with your weight then talk to your doctor.

hell don't make yourself ill just because you want to be like your friends.

i'm sure they wouldn't do the same.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (4 June 2009):

Making yourself throw up ruins the lining of your stomach and your teeth (there is acid in bile). Over-dieting or anorexia ruins your metabolism. The best way to lose weight is to each many small meals a day (but you still need to get enough calories or your body will go into starvation mode and store the fat for later use) and do a lot of cardio activity such as running or swimming. You also may want to try weight training, since the more muscle your body has the more calories it will burn. I would also recommend drinking a lot of water because it helps your body (including your digestive system) work more efficiently. I would recommend getting a dietician or going to your physician for advice. If you lose weight in a quick unhealthy way, not only will it cause heart problems, but the weight will all come back the second you start eating normally again (without throwing up). I understand the desire to be attractive, but each person's body is different and you should be proud of your own. However, if you really want to lose weight please do it the old fashion way, reasonable diet and exercise. Its the only way that actually works. Best of luck.

Sorry but that's pretty..... pretty dumb! Its not healthy! If you are so desperate, you should hit the gym and do situps till you scream and run on the treadmill till your sides burned. Then you would rest, stretch, and do it all over again! You would watch your diet and keep healthy above all else to fuel your new lifestyle.

But no, you are taking the easy way out making yourself throw up! Your problem is you are taking shortcuts. Shortcuts in fitness do NOT WORK.

The only throwing up you should be doing is if you are very ill or after a particularly intense workout. Finito.

A female reader, jalmetha United States +, writes (4 June 2009):

jalmetha agony auntI know what it feels like to be over weight as i too am working towads a more skinnier me.

Don't throw up. The acid in your stomach will rot out your teeth on the way back up. Beleive me, he would rather have sex with an overweight person than one with rotten teeth.

First of all, you need to get more active. Walking in place is good starter exersice. Start off with 5 minutes every morning and night and work your way up. Watch tv while doing so. Drink plenty of water, it will help flush you out.

You also need to eat smaller portions. Beleive me, when you start you will think you will starve. But give it time and you will get used to eating smaller meals, about 2 1/2 weeks.

I'm not sure if it is availble in Cananda but there is an over the counter drug in the US called Alli that can help. It is a drug that helps the fat in the food you eat pass through naturally rather than sticking to you. It is $49 but if you go to the website, they will give you a $10 coupon.

Be aware, if you eat something containing too much fat, watch out! You will be suck in the bath room for a bit of time. It will cause slight stomach cramping until you get used to it. It is helping though.

Remember, it does take time to loose weight. It won't get skinny overnight!
