Confused! My bf isn't talking to me now, over my dad's reactions!

Why would my boyfriend need acceptance from my father with regard to his daughter from a previous marriage. He is not talking to me since yesterday because of how my father responded when he was told about my boyfriends's daughter. The response was not negative in any way.
