ok so i have some questions bout STDs. i'm not planning to have sex or nothing. i've never even had a boyfriend before, but we just did our very brief unit in health on sex and well:

1) so is it likely to contract an STD if both u and ur partner are virgins?

2) one of my friends recently gave her boyfriend a blow job, and she was telling me how she didn't use a condom and used her own saliva as lube. can you get an STD from licking a penis without protection? or is it just the bodily fluid you can get the STD from??

just curious

LazyGuy agony auntOh dear.

BODILY FLUID. What does that mean? It means fluids from your body. This includes blood, semen but also SALIVA!

So yes, oral sex does have a risk of transmitting an STD. In fact, far MORE so then sex itself because your mouth will be constantly subjected to tiny wounds that you never notice but are more then big enough to let through a virus.

Now, the human body ain't all that fragile, after all we are bombarded with diseases all day and if we got infected everytime we wouldn't survive very long. But close intimate contact with someone else does increase the risk of a disease spreading.

The idea that you can't get an STD if you are a virgin is one of those common myths that explains why STD's are actually on the rise despite both available protection and cures having improved.

I grew up during the aids scare and it was a scare indeed, dutch tv showed a program showing in full graphic details everything to do with sex and how to use condoms just to drive the point home. It worked, kids got a lot more responsible but since then the religious loonies have protested, the program has not been repeated and STD's are back up.

So I can understand why you don't have a clue BUT remember this. STD's can happen from ANY transfer of ANY bodily fluids. it doesn't have to be sex. In fact a very common STD is transferred just by kissing. Not sure what the english word for it is but it is responsible for lip sores.

So, be safe, use a condom.

HPV, which causes cervical cancer, spreads by skin to skin contact. No bodily fluids necessary.

1. No because you won't have picked it up from anywhere. There is one or two STD that you can get without having sex, and then passing them on, but it isn't likely no.

Use a condom.

2. Depends if he 'gave anything off' and she swallowed it. Its unlikely again, in her situation.

I think it is just bodily fluid you get STDs from, but I mean you can probably get it somewhere else too. Just use condoms and play it safe yeah?!

For the future.
