A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Dear cupid,

I'm now quite worried,I am on the Pill and have been for almost 2 years i have regular sex with my long term boyfriend without using any other contraception apart from when on antibiotics for what ever reason as it is advised you use extra contraception then.

I was chatting to a friend recently about teen pregnancy and how Im worried about getting pregnant and not realising before its too late. I really dont want children until im older! you hear these horror stories about women on the pill not knowing they r pregnant (still having periods etc.) and then its too late.

My friend said you have to be careful taking pregnancy tests when you are on the pill as because of the hormone levels it may give wrong readings... it may say you are not pregnant when you actually are?! Is this true?? if so how else do u know??

A female reader, anonymous, writes (2 January 2008):

No the pill can not give you a false positive pg result. As to getting pg when on the pill (apart from the reason you said) my dr has advised me to be careful when you have a stomach upset: ie sickness/diarrhoea. Hope that helps, if you really are that worried about not getting pg then the only other answer is to use condoms as well.

Minelisse agony auntIf you are really worried about being pregnant you could take a blood test, at least in Puerto Rico, you don't need a medical prescription for it. Also, read information about the birth control pills you are on, it should tell you about the possibility of a false reading.

Condoms can also help you to prevent unwanted pregnancies and any STD. Good luck!
