sammi star agony auntI really like the book idea. I'm all about the personalised presents and try to make it a rule that more time is spent than money. Anyone can buy a gift but putting thought and time into something unique shows real love :)

I did an indoor picnic for my bf once. I bought loads of tea lights (they're so cheap) set them out in a huge heart shape, layed a blanket in the middle, scattered it with heart shaped confetti and cooked his favourite foods and bought his favourite wine.

Another idea is to make a collage of pictures of the two of you together or buy a little box, decorate it in a way that means something to you both then fill it with little notes on pretty paper, things like love quotes, lyrics or just things you love about him.

Let your imagination go wild! The possibilities are endless :)

A reader, anonymous, writes (22 January 2011):

buy a small blank(empty on every page) plain booklet. Use paper in his team color/colors to cover the outside.

Don't name the book, don't put your name nor his name on the book.

But as he turns each page he still know it has meaning for both of you.

On each page place something flat, or write a love saying.

So: page examples could be:

1. a lock of your hair secured at the top with a dab of glue. (leave page open until dries)

2. A picture or even a drawing of the place where you met.

3. Look through the internet for romantic quotes

4. A kiss from you lips (let it dry well so it does not smudge)

5. Another nice saying

6. Something that might remind him of a great outing you had together (google earth the place then download a picture looking down)

7. Every few pages include something he loves- picture of his football team or a sport he loves or the car of his dreams)

8. Something that depicts something only you both know. (eg if someone had a nickname like 'rusty' you cd get a picture of a rusted item Martha Stewart Living has great pictures, even for school projects)

9 another love saying

10. A picture or a recipe of something he loves to eat - favorite friut or favorite vegetable etc)

Once you have the hang of it you can fill every page. And the booklet remains unique to both of you, but does not cost an arm and a leg. It only takes time and your creativity.

If you did want to include something that cost $ it could be tickets to attend something he likes.

A male reader, Odds United States +, writes (22 January 2011):

Odds agony auntWhatever you do with him, the best gift you could give a guy is to be easygoing about it. By all means, make a big plan, but don't get more attached to the plan than to the relationship. Instead of requiring it be a special day, just laugh off anything that does not go according to plan, and have an easy backup option if everything goes wrong - set aside a movie and a frozen pizza at your house, just in case.

If you take the pressure off him (and yourself) to be perfect, the day will be much better for both of you.
