writes: Hello there, I wonder,if anybody knows about astral projection, or astral travel. I have been reading a lot about this issue, as I meditate a lot, and tried to have this experience.But now ,I really wonder ,if it is a bunch of b.s, or I just don't know how to do it. Sure it sounds none scientific, but many people claims, they really did get out of there body, and it is an incredible experience. And this is not with any drugs....It is a kind of out of body experience, what science also don't believe in, but many people claims to have it.What do you know about this experiences, and have ever had any of them?

The following answer is based on information I have come across from other people rather than personal experience. The idea is that there are different aspects to our existance, there is the physical form of the body, our mental processes that reside in the brain such as our thoughts and emotions, and then there are our subtle aspects such as our consciousness and energetic or spiritual bodies, which interface with our physical form. The idea is that it is possible to place awareness in our consciousness which is separate from our physical form, and that our consciousness can be projected elsewhere, that it is not limited to the body though it resides there while we are alive, that the body is its home. You will have been told this kind of thing, in better detail and with greater accuracy than what I can describe, from the books you have read.
I like to construct my reality based on things which are supported by science. In other words, if something holds up to scientific scrutiny, I tend to include it in my reality. However, there is much that science doesn't know about, and cannot investigate, especially in the areas of consciousness and that which is not of the material world. If something is proven to not be true, then it is not true, but things that cannot be proven are not necessarily untrue. I tend not to dismiss these things just because science doesn't know what to do with them. Where the realm of science ends, the areas of spirituality and consciousness begin.
In this area, you can not get proof from the outside world. People can write books about it and tell you their version of their experiences, but they can never offer you proof because they know what they know only by virtue of their experience. The only way for you to know, when it comes to things of this nature, is to experience for yourself.
The power of an individuals consciousness can, according to people who claim to have done so, result in a variety of abilities such as astral travel, levitation, clairevoiance, seeing or communicating with the dead, and other psycic abilities. Some of those warn that seeking these abilities is merely a distraction from the real purpose of the development of consciousness, which is to foster a total conection with the universal consciousness from which all consciousness originates. The goal is enlightenment, for your consciousness to come into direct contact with the supreme consciousness, or god, or the universal mind, whatever name you prefer to give it, so that you can serve the will of the universe or intelligently play your part in the unfolding of life. Pursuit of abilities is in the interests of the ego, not that of the universe. According to them, mediation and love are all you need to get you where you need to be. If you can foster these aspects in your inner and outer world, you will get to where you want to be.

reader, anonymous, writes (19 June 2011): A friend of mine use to do this all the time he would lay down on the floor close his eyes and lay there for hours i asked him to describe it to me and he said his soul leaves his body and he just floats around above looking down on himself(weird)and its just being totaly relaxed and free to go anywhere he wanted,he said he had seen other people on this astral plane and there is no communication only with your most inner thoughs i dont believe there is any truth in it all
