 Depends on your age. When I was about 13-15, it wasn't considered bad (dont know if it is at 20 but I dont do that no more so dont really care:-P) but if you're still in that age range I mentioned, I dont see the harm in going ahead with it. Doesn't hurt neither and you'd have to suck like an animal to actually break the skin (unless you get bitten in which case its totally wierd and freaky)
and about the bacteria thing, if its that bad, what about kissing? Honest question folks, I'd like to know

 how long do they last? Depends on your skin and the size/ depth of the bite from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. how do you give one? A set of teeth probably helps! what should I do when being given one? Hope you don't get a range of nasty consequences of being given one. Are there dangers? Yes, bruising is an injury to the skin and hurts. If the skin is broken there is a risk of infection and permanent scars. Your teeth and mouth have lots of bacteria and it is not a good idea to pass that into someone else's blood stream. It is also a sign of being sexually active...but not in a good way!

a love bit is just bruising under the skin there is not allot of danger about them giving one just bit softly on the skin and suck they should last about 1-3 weeks : )

reader, anonymous, writes (25 February 2007): The only danger in love bites or hickies is the embarassment you will feel when people make fun of you for having one....it is considered immature to give and receive those hickies, it is a billboard to everyone that you are gettin' it on, and who's business is that anyway, but your own.
I am not going to tell you how to give one, I will let someone else do that for you....lol.
