Afraid to start a relationship?

I'm 16 years old. My close friend he likes me for about 3 years now. For that 3 years i rejected him. Suddenly i think back and he is actually really sweet so i though i might give him a chance. Well, basically i had never been in any relationship before as those who like me are usually jerks (some can't even remember my name)so rejected them. I really wanna like have a simple date with him to see where this is going but honestly I'm afraid. I'm afraid to start a relationship and i don't know why. Sometimes i thought maybe that was Why i rejected all the other guys. I really don't know what to think. I don't know how to date or be romantic(i laugh at cheesy moments in romantic movies) or anything.so what should i do?
