Worried army wife!

Question - (13 April 2009) 3 Answers - (Newest, 13 April 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend is in the army and was recently deployed. He went at the begining of February. It is the first time he has been away since we have been together and when he first left he called me regularly every few days, but I have not heard from him for three weeks. I do not know how often he would be able to call me so I am worrying a bit. He has left my details as emergency contact so I know that nothing bad has happened to him.

Is any one going through a similar experience? Is it normal that I would not hear from him for this length of time?

Thanks

ArmyMedic agony auntThis is totally normal, operations are busy times and often we are stuck at a little out post with no email, no sat phone and blueys get taken out on a helicopter once every couple of weeks. The other issue is OPSEC (Operational Security) if a big Operation is going down, a VIP is coming to visit, or anything else that could be useful to the "Enemy" is happening the MOD very kindly turn off the phones and internet so we can't phone Bin Laden and tell him all our secrets (yes silly I know but the MOD are so paranoid about these things)

I'm sure you already know that the BFPO system isn't the fastest in the world, but the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Cell work very quickly in getting information home. So more often than not No news is good news.

Just keep writing to him, you honestly don't know how good it is to get letters from the girl you love when everything around you is dust, bombs, and generally quite depressing.

It is very hard for us guys on the frontline to actually understand the pain you girls go though for us while we are away, I have got home from tour in December and my wife had a horrible time, I think she is more shell shocked than I was.

There are a couple of Army wives on here Emilyanswers seems to be one of the top aunts here and an Army Wife drop her a line and I'm sure she'll be willing to help out.
