A female reader, Ask oldersister United States + , writes (25 April 2008):

Ask oldersister agony auntIt sounds like he needs to be appreciated more. I may sound sexist here but I find men need a lot more appreciation than women and women probably need more reassurance than men. It sounds ridiculous, but it works- remind him of how much you need him and how great he is for supporting you during this time. Cook him nice dinners and rub his feet, etc... He'll complain less and you'll be able to take your time finding a job! He will respond to this better than you discussing how irritated you are with him.
