We want a sign on your part that your interested too, its that simple. Usually the guy want to move things along and it's kind of like you giving him the o.k if you call. But, it can also be a way to keep his dignity, no guy wants to be groveling at your feet, so he let's you know you don't have all the control.

 Because they don't want a relationship with you. Men will perhaps go on a few dates hoping to have sex with someone they don't want something longer with, but they're not looking for anything more. So after a few dates, sex or no sex, the phone calls stop.
You can use this to your advantage: date a guy for a while before having sex. By that I mean considerably longer than 3 dates. If he stops calling then you know he was just after sex, and if he keeps on going on dates (whilst you still haven't slept with him) then the chances are much higher that he really is into you. Which is exactly the information you want to know when dating, right? This also has the added advantage of making the guy think you really are a 'catch', since he had to work so hard to get you.

Or if your dating the other sort of man, and you give yourself away too early, he ain't going to hang around either. Try dating a different type, do you pick your guys up in pubs/nightclubs? Try joining some sort of night class etc.

Usually it is because they think it is the wrong relationship for them, or because they are dating around and not wanting to get into anything with one girl in particular. Don't let it get you down. Dating is a process of elimination sort of and it is supposed to be fun, however, it can get pretty old pretty quick if you aren't meeting amazing men.
