What shall I do about my online man?

A female , anonymous writes:

I met someone online and we moved in months after. It was within 1 1/2 months that I figured out it just wasn't going to work. He moved from out of state and found a great job. However, he is not wanting to move back to his state. He wants to remain in my area and is moving out this weekend. I already know it will never work because of several issues he has. I feel he is hopeful that I might change my mind. I feel a sense of duty to keep in touch with him since I am the only one he knows here (besides a co-worker). Should I continue being friends with him, or should I keep my distance. I don't want to hurt him.

ariel agony auntYou have already hurt him,I don't think you can hurt him anymore.Stop trying to ease your guilt.I would hate to have a friend who is friends with me because I don't know anyone in the area.It did not work out because he has issues that you are not willing to compromise on.

If you don't make a clean break the poor bloke will not be able to move on because you will be hanging above him like a black cloud.

Keep you distance.
