I think he's just making an honest concern of his known - i think it's said with the best of intentions!If you did join him, and he spent all of the evening talking to his mates as he had planned to, and left you out a little, you might get upset at him for ignoring you. I think this is what he wants to avoid - I think he's only trying not to hurt anyone!

Your supossed to his mate, aren't you? If you both can't enjoy time out together with each others' friends then you don't have much of a chance. There are exceptions if it's a lads night out, I can understand that. The same goes when the girls go out, it's a normal thing to do. But if this is a common answer to your question than he sounds immature.
