What are the dating expectations in Australia?

A female Australia age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I asked about this yesterday and got the interesting answer that it varies significantly between countries... so now I'm wondering what the typical dating expectations are in Australia? I'm particularly wondering about this situation: you've been dating someone for say a few months, seeing them about once a week and haven't talked about being a couple or not. Is there likely to be an expectation that neither of you are dating anyone else? Is this fairly normal or is this guy not that interested?

It's been years since I've dated, so I'd love any clues as to how it works. My girlfriends are all either ultra conservative (as in they think you should be friends with a guy for a year or 2, then kiss, then get engaged and they've mostly been married for years anyway) or still go out clubbing every weekend and go for the random hookups. I want to find the middle ground between these extremes and need some help finding it. Thanks!

Jayney Y agony auntIf someone wants you to be their significant other, they'll let you know, and if they don't, then there's every possibility you're just filling some void for them. If that's your scenario, the average Aussie guy will keep on seeing you and sleeping with you whilst trying to avoid any sort of commitment if you allow them to get away with that, or they will ditch you if you push for more and they are just using you. I wish I had a dollar for every woman I know who has been used until the man of the moment was put on the spot. That's the ordinary Australian way anyway, but we have so many different cultures here that it depends which one you are a part of. Unfortunately Australian men aren't right up there in the gentleman stakes. :)
