reader, anonymous, writes (21 October 2007): My wife and I have been together for over 28 years and the frequency has varied over time. It's hard to remember, but I think that at 5 years it was several times a week. Over time, it varied and depended on our jobs and the amount of stress in our lives. Sometimes it was 8 or 10 times a week and other times it was twice a month or once a week. We occasionally got in a rut for a year or so and didn't do it ofter. Now we are back to several times a week. I'm sure that will change again. I have probably always wanted it more often than she did, even when we were younger (30s) and we did it twice a day. When that was just right for her, I think I remember wanting it 3 times a day.
If you are both reasonably happy with the frequency, then I wouldn't worry. For instance, if you are doing it once a week and both happy with that, then don't worry just because some other couple that you know is having sex 5 times a week. If you vary greatly in your desires, then try to find a compromise. I'm not sure how to do that, as I have been fortunate that my wife and I have at least similar desires most of the time.

reader, anonymous, writes (21 October 2007): I don't think you could put an 'average' figure to this. Well, I suppose you could - by interviewing a whole load of people in your age group who've been married for five years and asking them.
It all depends on individual libido. Some might be happy with every day, others once a week or even once a month. The 'right' frequency is therefore according to individual needs.
I'm guessing there's a hidden agenda behind your question though - like perhaps you want it once a month and he wants it twice a night?

Ive always felt a good sex life with the one you love a very important part although not the most important of a relationship.
People are different so you may get very different veiws on this, But for me Im with the man I love and personally cant keep my hands off him, It hasnt gone its just got better.

I guess there is no set limit to the amount of times a couple make love after 5 years, it would differ from couple to couple. Some couples might make love every night, while some just once a week. I really boils down to what you are both comfortable with.
