We broke up 3 weeks ago. How long am I supposed to wait?

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

It's been about 3 weeks now since my boyfriend broke up with me. He only did it because of my family, since something bad happened between my brother in law and him. He feels upset and hurt about it. I am just wondering why is it that the girls always get kicked to the curb when something bad happens and we didn't do anything? I was with him for almost 5 years and we have a beautiful son together. I am very hurt inside and still fall inlove with him everytime I see him. He does still love me and wants us to be a family again someday but, how long am I suppose to wait?

But perhaps the point is you didn't do anything. If something bad happened between him and your brother, who were you supportive of? What happened to make him walk exactly?
