 It's not weird at all. My friend has been with his gf for over a year and I have not once seen them kiss affectionately because he feels it's not right for others to see. She, however hates it. But it is very normal :)

 It's not weird. A lot of people don't like PDA because they don't want others staring at or judging them.
It's a matter of preference. If your girlfriend is bothered by this, reassure her. Tell her you find it inappropriate and you would much rather physically express your feelings to her in a more intimate setting.
While you don't want to kiss her in public, just make sure to at least hold her hand and give her a quick peck on the cheek here and there.
