The early pregnancy scan resulted in the impossibility to see the foetus. Should I be worried?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I had an early scan on Wednesday when I would have been 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant and the Nurse couldn't find the baby, I don't know why but I am positive I must be having a 'silent' miscarriage. The Nurse told me that it's because my bladder wasn't full enough and it might be because I am thin. She said it's easier to scan larger women.

I still have all the symptoms I have had for the last few weeks but I just can't stop worrying. I'm having another scan on Friday when i will be 10 weeks and she told me to drink water and not to go to the toilet when I wake up because my appointment is at 9ish. I'm just really worried after finding out I'm pregnant and then now coming to wanting the baby to it not being there at all! She did take another test there and it was still positive.

Will they definitely be able to see the baby at 10 weeks? My Doctor told me not to worry because the baby can/will stil be fine they just couldn't find it. He also told me not to worry about miscarriage unless I start to bleed, then go straight to the Hospital. I suppose I just wanted to let all that out because my parents disapprove of keeping the baby so I can't really explain to them how scared I am. Thanks for reading :).

it must be so difficult for you to go through this without your parents' support - although I am sure for them the reason is that they see you still as their little child - and they probably feel you're too young to have your own. I am in early pregnancy like you and worried about my baby as I've had problems in the past. It is amazing how quickly we bond with these tiny beings inside! I hope your baby is safe, take care of yourself - if your parents continue not to be supportive make sure you find other people who are - there are good support groups particularly for young expectant mums.

I posted this topic and have good news :). I bled a little last night and this morning and began to worry so my Dad took me to the infirmary where they did an internal scan - The reason they couldn't see my baby was because I'm only 6 weeks gone. The sack is still there lol, I even saw the heartbeat even though it was just a flicker! It really was the most amazing thing I ever saw and I am so happy everything is ok.

Thanks very much for giving me advice. :)

Laura1318 agony auntYou can go to this site to view the stages of the fetus;-

Sometimes it depends on what type of scan machine they used. If they are using an older modal , it may not be detected. Sometimes the scan results can be wrong.

Do not worry too much.Your baby is safe.
