Look around you at all the pain and suffering in the world. So many people and animals are the victims of violence and misfortune. They have no way out of their miserable lives because of the circumstances they were born into or put in by others.

how can anyone who steps out of their cocoon of their every day life and really, truly reflects on the plight of the suffering, not feel motivated to DO SOMETHING , to do their part, to help those who don't have a fraction of what you do?

there is more to life than working a boring job. You can dedicate your time and energy to make the world a better place. You can also get a different job that has meaning by nature of the work itself.

natasia agony auntLife is short. You will work that out. Maybe you are starting to work it out already. There are only a few important things you can do to give your life meaning:

1) Have a family and be a generous and loving father. Enjoy every moment. Love someone.

2) Do something to make life better for other people. Whatever that may be.

3) Be kind.

4) Enjoy every breath you take; enjoy the sunshine; go for a swim or a run and enjoy being alive, for all those who aren't here any more.

Yea you should be doing more than just working!

Your partying years are behind you, you've done that. It wasn't a waste, just a phase.

Now you have to find something new to motivate you, there's loads of going on in life. I had a year where I decided to set a new goal every month, achieve or do something I had never tried.

That way I found what motivated me and what I never wanted to do again.I now make sure I go to at least one Festival every year and camp there.I love the theatre, going to see a show - musical - in a couple of weeks. Can now canoe again ..take my camera everywhere.. I have met so many interesting people doing the weirdest things.

tennisstar88 agony auntI may be taking this the wrong way, but are you wanting to revert back to partying and drinking?

There is more to life, being successful in your career, doing activities you've always wanted to do but haven't had the time, traveling your country or the world, finding a spouse, creating a family, setting new goals for yourself to achieve...etc.

A female reader, Miamine United Kingdom +, writes (25 February 2012):

Miamine agony auntNot crazy at all.. you've spent a long time taking from others, it's time you gave something back. Go and do some voluntary work, work with kids, work with the disabled. When you give you'll find that empty hole in your heart that says life is meaningless will start to heal.

People with learning difficulties give so much love, seldom cry about their problems, and are so wonderful to be with they make you glad to be alive. You'll get back more than you give, even in this.
