 Go for it, try and find him if you wanna? You've got nothing to lose afterall :D a good place to start is social networks, myspace, facebook, bebo ect. You could also ask around other people who you used to go to school with, who know/knew him, if your still in contact with anyone that is, people know people who know people.  Well, if you don't try to get back in touch, it will bug you for ever... trust me, been there!
You could try to find him through websites like Facebook and Friendsreunited or ask old ask old school friends you might still know if they have a contact for him.
I wouldn't go too mad, but do what you can: if it's meant to be, you will meet again, if not... well, at least you've tried.
