writes:I'm 17 years old and im considering getting braces. I recently went to the orthodontist and since i have a very small jaw, i need to remove four teeth. Ive always been afraid of losing my teeth and to have to go through four injections and remove four teeth seems rather drastic. The only reason im considering them now is because many people have said I have angelina jolie lips. I also have two small bunny teeth and lately ive been very self conscious of my mouth because people always say how thick they are or how they protrude from my face. But some of my other friends say that it looks sexy. I have looked at other options such as Invisalign but apparently that will not work with my teeth. At my age im also really self conscious as this will be my last year of high school and i dont know if wearing braces will be worth it. Help me decide?

reader, anonymous, writes (16 January 2009): Yes get them, if you don't your teeth will not get better and eventually you will have to get them. Get them before you go to college, that will be even worse than your last year of high school. Just get it over with.

Hey i've jsut had braces and i'm nearly 19 and i was totally worried like you. maybe in your case it might be different but i havent had any injections. the process for me was actually painful at the begining but afta a week i can eat normal food just not bite apples. you won't look daft for wearin braces and do you know how many blokes i hear talking about jolies lips. thats a compliment :)
and in the long run your'l have beautiful teeth!! but if you are worried then talk to your dentist. mines quite hard to tlak to but i wish i did go through what the procedure was going to be first.
