A female United States age 18-21, anonymous writes:

who do you dress your self or others? I know this question may sound silly but is been in my mind for a while now. I don't have a lot of clothes and I like to look nice. But when you don't have much to wear people tend to notice what you wear since is pretty much the same thing. I have clothes I only wear to school and to go out. And I have clothes I wear to go outside to the store or just to a friends house a few doors down. My point is the clothes I wear to just go outside or to visit my best friend is the not so nice clothes and the nice clothes is for school and going out to the places I consider important to me. So should I dress with what ever I like to matter where I'm going just to look nice for my self. Or should I dress up for because I want to impress someone?

k_c100 agony auntI always dress to please myself - I think it is very important to feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. I love clothes, I even studied Fashion at University! It made me realise that everyone has their own body shape, and their own individual style and that should be celebrated. Never dress to try and impress anyone else - you just end up looking like you are trying too hard!

Just be yourself and wear what makes you happy, dress to suit your body shape and try and reflect your individual style - as long as you are happy and feel confident then that will be a positive influence on the people that are around you.

I hope this helps!

Ask oldersister agony auntIt doesn't matter how many outfits you have but rather, the outfits you do have are clean, not faded, and appropriate for a professional environment when you are in one. Always dress for success in the workplace, no excuses, and it doesn't matter if you wear one outfit once a week. If you don't have much money, buy mix and match suits in navy, black, and beige that don't stand out but look sharp- people will be less apt to notice you wearing the same things. I had to do this when I got my first job and I went to Petite Sophisticate, which has a lot of smart, appropriate outfits for the workplace and don't let the name fool you, they have outfits in all sizes. You can't go wrong at Talbot's either but it's a bit more pricey. When you start earning more you will want to go to different places to buy your clothes and can be a little more original and individualistic in your dress but I'd start out not standing out and wearing classic outfits to work. I also have very long hair that I would pull back for work and go easy on any makeup and jewelry. Everytime I got promoted, I was always told how meticulous and tailored I looked so I know it counts. It pays off.

Dress however you want with your friends unless you want to impress them.

Dress what you think would be right for you. As long as you're comfortable with what you're wearing, go for that dress.
