She's threatening to go to the police years later...

A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I am 33 years old now, when I was 17 I had a 14 year old girl friend, we were sexually active up until I broke up with her, I have never considered whether I had broke the law having sex with her, I am not even sure I was of the legal age myself. I had not seen or heard or even thought of her until she surprised me by messaging me on Face Book very recently. It was not a friendly "how do you do?" In fact it was very abusive, I was shocked and angered and retaliated with my own torrent of abuse, I am sure any man or woman may have done the same, Anyways, she has threatened to report me for my actions all those years ago, I must admit I am unsure if anything would come of it, she was never forced into any sexual activity. I do not know what the law governing under age sex back in 1992/93 or if the existing laws today could find me prosecuted for my actions, should she carry out her word, I would appreciate some very professional and honest advice on this matter.

I should probably point out that all my girlfriends after her have either been older or the same age as me, my current partner of 2 years is 2 years my senior.

No, I believe the statue of limitations has run out, she can't do anything. I agree with another poster, deny everything. How is she going to prove something from that long ago? And piece of advise, I would certainly change your facebook, and ignore anything else from her. She sounds a little bit crazy and possibly dangerous.

yum yum agony auntDear Anonymous, No she cannot carry out any legal action after so many years. I believe she has a personality disorder of some type. There is P.D that people can carry out grudges for very long peroid. Do not ever confess that you had sex with her, she cannot prove it. Its not in your favor to admit that you had sex with her. She possibly wants to get back at you for other reasons. She is mentally ill. Brake up the contact with her and don't ever contact her.

hmm, I'm not TOO sure of the laaws, but I highly doubt any prosecutor or judge with any sort of coomon sense would waste their time with such an old, worn out case. If you saved the message, that could be an advantage for you. and I know the law now is the person can only be 3 years older, and you must be at least 14 to have sex. anything under is just illegal and you'll get way more time than that. But as of now, I can almost guarantee they will not do anything to you for that. :)
