A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I'm a little confused. My girlfirend has told me that she loves me but is not in love with me and that we are more like best friends and that she doesn't think the relationship will work. This is after asking me if I eventually wanted to get married and have kids to which I replied positively. I don't understand where she's coming from can anyone else?

A female reader, thurdmusketeer United States +, writes (11 June 2007):

Girls love to be loved! She is asking you those questions to keep you around! She knows that you have feelings for her and she probably loves it. I'm sorry to say but she probably doesn't want a relationship with you. Girls with low self esteam like it when guys are attracked to them! It's like an ego boost.
