There is nothing wrong with it, and no you won't hurt her, but many women have been brought up to believe that the blood of their period is dirty and disgusting. Many women who are brave enough to try this says that it helps with the pains that they suffer when the period comes.

I hope you don't mind my complete honesty, but I find that release during my period helps me with my discomfort! Most women have pain from periods due to cramping or bloating. The release of the hormones that achieving climax releases as well as the exercise will probably be helpful.
