Me and my boyfriend had sex for the first time.. It was the first time for both of us. We used protection and the condom didn't break or anything like that. I'm scared I can get pregnant from this time.

im afraid there is always a way of getting pregnant, however hard you try not to. however, there is a lower chance of a pregnancy.

correction, if you stop the pill for a cycle or two and then start using it again, it is not effective for the first month and you have to use additional protection. I can vouch that the pill is very safe, I have never been pregnant, it did not make me gain weight, it cleared up my acne and made my periods lighter. As long as you are not a smoker and are healthy, the pill is the way to go in my book....since you have decided to become sexually active at such a young age, you need to get on the birth control pill and use condoms to protect you from STDs.

Having sex at a young age will make you at a higher risk for getting cervical cancer, even if you don't have multiple partners....

A reader, anonymous, writes (3 March 2007):

When condoms are used as the only form of birth control and they do not break there is a 14-15% failure rate, meaning that 14-15 people per 100 will become pregnant with the use of condoms. Using spermicidal foam increases the success rate to 95%, IF used properly.

What this means that condoms are a pretty risky form of birth control if you are looking for a low probability of pregnancy, i.e., you are not married and ready to start a family....because they can break and even if they don't some sperm can leak out around them.

The pill on the other side is 99.9% effective against pregnancy as long as they are taken as prescribed and you do not use them as a sole source of protection when taking some antibiotics...when you do that you need to use added protection. Some women are of the misguided belief that they can stop and start the pill based on their sexual activity. This is not the way the pill was designed....if you start the pill and stop, you need to use protection for at least a month after stopping.....it is most effective if used consistently every month....

Juliette agony auntNo, as that is why you used a condom. You could only get pregnant if any of his sperm entered your vagina.

nothing except abstinence is the only way to be 100% sure you arent pregnant. it doesnt matter if it is your first time or not. but you likely are not pregnant if you were both careful and he didnt cum inside of you and you had a condom on. my advice is to go on the pill and always use a condom.
