Sex can be really painful. Is this normal?

Question - (23 October 2006) 2 Answers - (Newest, 23 October 2006)
A female United Kingdom, anonymous writes:

I have irritable bowel syndrome and regularly get constipated. However, when it gets really bad, I've noticed that having sex hurts sometimes, when we're in a position where his penis goes in very far.

Is this normal or is something wrong? It's not excrutiating, just a bit more than uncomfortable but then it eases off.

Please help.

ok sweety,

I know how you feel, I suffer with IBS.

It is normal to feel some dicomfort if your constipated, but if you can get your constipation and other symptoms under control whether its with Prescribed drugs or natural remedies,(I swear by natural remedies, speak to your local Pharmacist or health food shop about what might help),I garuntee that you will feel alot healthier and more confident during sex,(regardless of the position!!).

I sympathise - have experienced similar. My IBS though mostly under control but in the past has been horrendous. When at its worst though I wasn't in this relationship but do very, very occasionally experience pain during sex which I know is IBS related. I'd guess you're tackling your IBS yourself or with medical help .. I have found that stress makes it much worse & it becomes a vicious circle in that stress = pain = more stress = more pain. Might be worth a mention to your doctor if it gets really bad. Hope this helps.
