My boyfriend had fantasies about BDSM and I was happy to play along - play being the operative word. I was in in my mid twenties and once I started I enjoyed the submissive side of it, simple stuff like handcuffs and being tied to the bed to start with (and still enjoy) but venturing into slightly more SM play like spanking, hog tied and so on. To be honest the whole day can be a build up to it with suggestive texts during the day, followed by greeting him when he gets home in outfits that he enjoys (so do I). However the most important thing is trust. Be absolutely sure that you are comfortable with anything he might want to do and talk about it. If there are things you want too, do the same, and gradually just go as far as you want to. There aren't any rules about what the boundaries of BDSM are so define them yourself. BDSM is just a type of sex play, it can be very exciting and intimate and I have found a closeness to my (now husband) that I don't think I would have had without it.
