A female reader, anonymous, writes (7 May 2012):

Hi, I myself am an Indian so i understand your position. Sometimes parents get very pushy for marriage stuff. My question to you is how much you want to study ahead. If you really want to study then you must have your 12th results by now. Apply in a good college and stand your ground. Forced marriages are illegal in India so at the end of the day it'll all depend on how strong your will power is. Convince them that studying is your best option. Plus, keep rejecting the guys they want you to meet. In the end they'll have to see that you are not willing to get married. Also, don't give into emotional blackmail. That seems to be the major tool indian parents use these days.. All the best..
