Hi i'm 33 and have a queriy about my best friend. Well me and her have known each other since we were 13(year 8 at school) so we like most of the same things and always are able to have a good time. Well i go out with her brother and her hubby is also one of my best friends. We all went for a day out last week in the country and whilst they (my bf and her huuby) went or a drink we decided to have a look around the shops and had a look around at some of the tourist attracions and there was one of the most goregous caves i've ever seen filled with all sorts of different stones and loads of carvings of characters made out of wood, anyway we got a bit lost and it was quite dark, now my friend has always been abit affraid of the dark but from the age of 17 seemed to be over it and always said she wasn't. It started when i got my laces on my trainer caught and with it being dark i couldn't find what it was, anyway that got sorted and i must have took a wrong turning but we found ourselves in a part of the cave that lead to all different places, when i said i think we're lost she started to panic abit and then told me just as we were starting to figure out where we had gone wrong that she couldn't breath anyway me being me i started joking about the situation of being lost and then about 10minutes later she just burst into tears and said she wanted to get out anyway this is getting long so i won't bore you with the rest she basically just went straight to her hubby when we got out, i told him what had happened and we all went for a drink. I was wondering if this was a sort of mild panic attack as it just came out of no where and i think if her hubby had been with us she might not of been as bad but if my bf had who is her brother he would have just wound her up even more like he does do, anyway we have always loved going to these sort of places together and we're all going on holiday together soon and i want to help her try to "grow out of it" if you see what i mean? Help her not to have them? but if it does happen again waht can i do to help her?

tinkerbell01 agony aunthi, from what you have said i think she has always had the fear of the dark she has just tried to hide it, im assuming that its the first time you have ever been in that situation and you thought your friend had grown out of her fear so you werent to know, i too have a fear of things i hide from people as all they do is take the mick and wind me up. i too have panic attacks when faced with my fear, my close friends have learned to help me avoid the situation. so my advice to you would be 1st say sorry for taking the mick out of her and winding her up, then in the future when your with her avoid places that you think might make her have an attack.
