A female reader, anonymous, writes (29 June 2010):

Well I understand that India is a more traditional country. But in any country the human heart is the same. Do you want to settle for who YOUR parents want just so that your parents can be happy, or do you want to pick who YOU want so that your heart can be happy? I think it is a selfish tradition for parents to be too involved in the choice of their children's mate. You should not have to ask us this question here, in an ideal world you should already have been taught by society and family that you should pick the man who makes YOU happy. Because it is YOU who will be living with him for the rest of your life, NOT YOUR FAMILY.
