A male reader, rcn United States +, writes (24 December 2007):

rcn agony auntI think he is playing you. What is his history like. MPD (Multiple personality disorder) is developed by major severe mental trauma. As an example. I personally have not met an MPD patient, but a psychiatrist I'm acquainted with had a patient with this disorder. This is an example of trauma that is the element behind it. This lady he had as a patient was locked in her basement for days at a time as a child. The guardians (i wouldn't call them parents) had chains hanging from the ceiling, and would chain her upside down for hours for talking back. Many times she was placed in a potato sack and tossed down the stairs and kept in there. She was forced to go to the bathroom on herself, and still had a nervous tic with fear of rats, because they would come out and nibble on her when she was locked down there. This was a very sad story.

Now MPD is a condition, simply explained, where the pain gets so bad the brain literally ditches one personality and jumps into another one.

I think he is pulling your leg. This is a unique way of getting permission to have more than one girlfriend at the same time.
