 It's not as uncommon as you think. Nuns are married to Christ, priests are married to the church, and all are supposed to be virgins, but, all are really only human.
Marriage has many dimensions, and all of them don't have to be present because no one person is perfect. I know of a married virgin couple who love each other as tenderly as can be...yet they've never had sex in 35 years.
