A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I recentely had UTI for 2 weeks now. This wasn't my first time. No stinging sensation or bloody urine extra but, just a strong odor first thing in the morning when I go to the loo.

I'm doing a natural remedy which is cranberry juice no added sugar just pure which seemed to cure my problem in the past but, I believe this different now because, I'm sexually active and I have heard UTI can be one of the causes caused from sex which could be the cause.

I will see my doctor in the future but, is there any other treatment besides antibiotics if he or she were to prescribe to me? because, I want to do a natural way instead espiecally, I'm on birth control.

Thank-you for reading.!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (23 June 2008):

I strongly suggest that you contact a health practitioner and not try to treat the infection yourself. If it’s a UTI, please note that only trained medical personnel can confirm UTI diagnosis with a special urine test and they alone can prescribe antibiotics which are currently the only medically proven therapy to help eradicate the infection.

There’s a lot of good information on the Cystex.com Web site regarding UTIs – check it out – www.cystex.com. The revamped site addresses the sex/UTI connection and why cranberry juices/supplements are not helpful once a UTI is present. They even have physicians available to help answer your personal questions about urinary tract health.

I hope that you feel better soon!

you might not have a UTI. if the odor is strong only in the morning, it could be that you are not drinking enough water. Drink at least 8-10 8oz glasses a day and see if that helps. If your pee is not faint in color or clear, you need to drink more water.

BigSis agony auntFirst of all I wouldn't recommend self care in this instance.

Antibiotics are really the only thing that will safely get rid of any infection you may have. If you don't take them, then you'll more than likely have a recurrence of this. Natural remedies are good sometimes, but this is an infection that needs taking care of medically. Usually a 3 to 7 day treatment of antibiotics is all you need.

Secondly, I would suggest you avoid coffee, alcohol, and spicy foods, all of which irritate the bladder.

Drink bucket loads of water, this will help flush out your system and thin down the urine, eliminating that odour.

Keep healthy hon.

If you really do have a urinary tract infection it might be a good idea to see your GP.

Why try mickey-mouse cures when there's stuff that really works available on the NHS?

You say it's not the first time - that doesn't totally surprise me - you probably didn't get rid of it the first time if you went to Holland & Barrett for a cure.

Cranberry juice is good for flushing out the kidneys, but useless on infections. Go and see your doctor unless you want even more serious problems in the future.
