A female United States, mwest writes:

My ex boyfriend is going to see a counselor now for his depression but he keeps saying that the doctor doesn't know what he's doing or talking about. Could this mean that he's finally getting my ex to open up about his problems or could it mean that this doctor isn't right for him?

A female reader, Annalisa United Kingdom +, writes (13 February 2008):

Annalisa agony auntCouncelors tend to let you do all the talking, so it may seem like they getting paid to sit on their hands. But the whole point is that our solutions are hidden within our experiences; we need to hear ourselves thinking outloud to realise what's gone wrong. It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion, though! Suggest he sees another councellor, but point out that he's there to listen and help him sort his mind out, not tell him what to do.

Good luck!

P.S. Sometimes a priest is better for the job and they don't charge!
