Is he just distracted? Or is he pulling away?

I have been dating a guy for almost a year. We have a good relationship and enjoy doing things together. He is very independent as am I (busy with graduate school). Recently he seems to be pulling away, we never really called on a daily basis before so the frequency of calls is the same, it is just a feeling I have. He also is busy with buying a house and working a second job out of town. He is just busy in general, do you think he is disinterested or is this my imagination working overtime? He is convinced his last relationship ended because they moved in together. So I can't figure out if he is keeping a distance because he is not into this relationship anymore or if he is legitimately busy and stressed out, or if he thinks the more he distances himself the more likely it will last?
