writes: hi.i am a shy and unconfident person and want to ask this girl to the school dance. the only thing is i don't knw if she has a partner. she smiles at me every time we see each other and will sit next to me in my classes.i am always first in to my afternoon class and she comes in soon after and we are left with a few minutes to chat. what should i say to her as i don't want to embarrass her or myself. but worse i don't want to ruin our friendship.How should i ask her out?

reader, anonymous, writes (4 November 2006): Well if worse comes to worst, you can always get a middleman to help u relay the message. Just make sure it's someone you think you can trust. Maybe even confront one of her friends about her? However, the best is always just to confront her yourself, and like Helly suggested, maybe talk with her when she's at the library looking for a book, or when she's walking up/down a stairway by herself - something like that.

 Well, my guess is this girl could really like you, but theres only one way to find out. Get her by herself or if you have her number, call her. make sure you ask her in private, whatever you do! Then, while your alone just ask her "will you go to the dance with me?" It seems harder than it actually is, trust me.
