A female , anonymous writes:

I am so nervous and scared. My mother had blood work done and urine as well recently. She is 60..the found blood in her urine..they tested again and still found blood. They did a urine culture. He said it was bacteria but not a UTI which i thought was weird b/c i thought usually if there is bacteria, it is a UTI.

He wants to perform a sonogram of bladder and kidneys just to make sure and see where the bacteria is coming from. He said it could go away on it's own but it is better to know. My friend who is a nurse said she thinks he is just ordering tests to use the insurance company.

Also--my mother has had a major change in her gas lately..it is happening alot more frequently and i read online it is a major sign of ovarian cancer. :(

I am very scared now. She is getting a pap done as well. I don't want her to be sick. I keep reading how this is a symptom and she has had this change for about a year now.

Has anyone had experience with this or know anything about it?

From what I read 1 in 2,000 women get ovarian cancer in the US. You're not registered so I can't tell where you're located. In the unlikely event that she has it, if it's just confined to that area they can remove her ovaries thus removing the cancer. So don't start immediately thinking the worst, you'll drive yourself crazy.

Also keep in mind cancer these days isn't necessarily a death sentence.

Cerberus_Raphael agony auntFirst of all, while its good to research this kind of thing online, make sure you avoid worrying yourself whenever you read about a symptom. I assure you, things aren't always what they seem, especially in the world of medicine. Nothing is absolute.

If she does have ovarian cancer, there's still a very high chance that she'll make it through and with treatments, she'll be cancer free. Don't get too scared. Change in gas can happen for a number of different reasons, most of which are almost insignificant. Remember, its always good to get multiple opinions if possible, just in case. Sometimes even Doctors make mistakes. Good luck.

I hope that helps.
