 It really depends what was in the email. Did you just send a friendly "Hi how are you" or did you declare your undying love?
Either way, a friends boyfriend is off limits really. You need to respect the boundaries of your friendship.
He might not have replied because he didn't want to get tangled in a web of his girlfriend and her friend, or he might not even use his email account on a regular basis.
