A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hey,

I'm 15 and I started my period when I was 11.

So I've been used to it for 4 years now.

It has always been extremely heavy, but then I got a little used to that too.

But for the last couple times I've had my period, I get unbearable pains, I'm just not able to stand up at all, and my arms, legs, back, head and stomach starts to ache.

If i do stand up I feel extremely dizzy and I really do feel like I'm about to faint.

This may sound like an exxageration, but it really isn't.

Its only started happening recently, over the 4 years I only used to get stomach pains and the pain would go away with ibuprofen or paracetemol.

These pains don't, if I have to see a doctor, I won't be able to until September.

My leg is broken and I am not able to move around alot, and because of my leg being broken, I find it harder for me to bear the pain.

What can I do?

Is this normal?

Has anyone else experienced this before?

I have not experiance pains like that from my period, but I have a good friend who has. She went to her doctor and he put her on birth control, which made her flows lighter and her cramps less painful. (It was so bad for her she would have to stay home from school for a couple of days each month) I think the best thing to do would be to see a doctor who can guide you in the right direction to solving this problem.

This is perfectly normal. Two of my friends' periods are so heavy and go on for so long that at some point they had to go to hospital. My advice is to try one of the many brands of pill for menstrual pain relief, and if you're against medicine so to speak, then there are also a few homeopathic remedies. Anyway, i'd probably talk to your Gp.

Hope it hurts less soon

domino21 agony auntI go through the same thing. Exercise seems to help me to an extent. I was getting them so bad I couldnt work or go to school while I had my period. Until you can go to the doctor I would just take some Aspirin. They may recommend birth control for you. Which can make a huge difference. I dont even get any cramps at all anymore since being on them.

bubbloo24 agony auntI have this very same problem. You need to get some to take you to your doctor who will probably prescribe anti inflammatory pills. I was given Menfanamic acid and this helped SO much.

I had to leave my AS level exam because of this so I can really sympathise with you.

Until then take two paracetomol every few hours as this will probably help the pain until you can get an apoointment.

Take care xx

A female reader, Mrs.Darcy United States +, writes (25 July 2008):

Mrs.Darcy agony auntI personally have had this problem. No you are not exagerating. The dizziness could be caused by anemia during your period. Try taking an iron supplement when you are on your period. Anemia is a low white blood cell count and when we are on our preiod it tends to throw that out of whack. Also, diet, size, and activity can cause the intense pain. Try cutting out the caffeine for a while that will make your cramos worse. If you have a small frame and are active this can cause a lot of pain, strong muscles little person... If things continue to be a problem I would recomend going to a doctor (have them check your iron level). Birth Control pills can help with the pain also, the tend to keep your system calm and regulated.

Hang in there.
